Dr Patricia Shinondo is a Paediatric Surgeon in Zambia, one of only 7 in the entire country, and the first Zambian female paediatric surgeon.
She is also a fellow of the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) and an associate fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
She currently heads the paediatric surgical unit at the Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia. She is actively involved in the training program of paediatric surgical trainees in the country.
Dr Shinondo also has a keen interest in research and surgical education and is an advocate for safe children’s surgery in both urban and rural areas in Zambia.
She has had roles such as Vice President of the Resident Doctors Association of Zambia, chair lady of the business advisory committee for the Zambia Medical Association, and currently holds the position of Secretary-General of the Zambia Association of Paediatric Surgeons, Secretary-General of the Women in Surgery Africa and vice president of Zambia Medical Association. All these have given her a strong desire to see increased female representation in key decision making positions.
